In this paper two new instruments designed and tested by the authors for velocity measurements in channels and hydraulic models have been described. The instruments are based on the direct or indirect measurement of drag, experienced by a body in a stream. They are inexpensive and robust, and require less time, labour and skill than the other commonly used instruments without loss of accuracy.
