Abstract

In the present investigations some problems connected with the design of chute spillway were taken up. Out of all the elements of chute spillway the attention was concentrated on the discharge carrier design. The effect of roughened bed on surface profile was studied. The three analytical solutions available for determining the equivalent roughness coefficient, namely those of Horton, Pavlovski and others, and Letter were used in computing the profile analytically for roughened bed. The validity of the above theories was discussed. The flow in convergent channel on a steep slope was studied. It was found that the depths were increasing in the downstream direction which was verified analytically by using standard step method. An equation was derived for gradually varied flow in a rectangular channel with the base width decreasing gradually.
