This article presents method of installation of two types of piezometers in Hirakud Earth Dam [maximum height 195 ft. (59.4 m.)], observation of pore pressure, comparison of prototype study with assumptions made, difficulties experienced in installation and observation. This information along with the article on ‘Settlement Installation of Hirakud Earth Dam (1) will assist the design engineer and construction engineers of earth dams in their field of work. Unfortunately no model study was done to find phreatic line and pressure distribution curves before design or execution of the work.
