This paper presents a rather complete re-analysis of the problem of jump formation in sloping channels. The general problem is divided into four cases. In case 1, there are A, B, C and D jumps. Kindsvater’s equation for the C jump is given in a simpler form identical with the Belanger momentum equation. A chart has been developed for fixing the type of A, B, C and D jumps. Two methods have been proposed for locating them. The first method is suitable for terminal supercritical streams and the second one is for the cases where the supercritical stream has not attained terminal conditions. The energy loss in the sloping channel jump has been studied in detail. The relative energy loss has been shown to be a function of the supercritical Froude Number and the slope. A critical analysis has been made of the well-known equation for the E jump. The need for further work is indicated.
