Abstract

Artificial recharge as a means of supplementing the otherwise depleting ground water supplies and stemming sea-water intrusion in coastal aquifers, is becoming increasingly popular in many areas. Owing to the lack of mathematical analysis of recharge phenomena, until recently, the design of artificial recharge projects had been, more or less, arbitrary. The aim of the authors in presenting this paper, has been to formulate, based on the available theoretical and experimental work on the subject, some principles and a procedure for the design of artificial recharge projects. The fields in which further research is needed, have also been pointed out.
