Abstract

This paper is unconventional in the sense thai it does not purport to cover all aspects of the problem confronting the future national voltage. The factors governing a decision are complex. They are both technical and economical The data available at the disposal of the author was limited and he would therefore, plead the limitations in which he has been constrained to work on the paper.

The main object of the author is to present to the growing intellectual and enter-prising Electrical Engineers the present status of thinking and practice of the choke of the next E.H. V. under a given scheme of development of transmission lines. The choice of 500 kV. in theplace of 400 kV. as the next higher voltage to 220 kV. is emphasised and some statistical and technical data of other countries is presented to provide a patch for further research and unbiased study on the problem of the choice.
