The problems of wave action on earth dams are introduced. Prediction of design wave characteristics as a preliminary to the design of devices for controlling wave action is discussed. The wave deflector as an efficient device for controlling or even eliminating wave run-up is described and a practical example of the design of a wave deflector for an earth dam is illustrated. A few important details of construction of wave deflectors are given.
