Abstract

In the present context of scientific advancement, the demand for water has increased considerably. In arid and semi-arid regions any development of ivater resources should ensure efficient control, conservation and use of available water. Of the common losses, the evaporation loss signifies water that is finally lost from the available supply. Straight chain alcohols possess the properly to spread and give cover on water surface to suppress evaporation. Getyl or stearyl alcohol or a combination of both were found to be specially adaptable for this purpose. This paper describes the studies conducted in Buderi Tank near Irrigation Research Station, Poondi with special reference to methods of application of the compounds on the ivater surface, the technique of testing and assessing the results of the field tests.
