The Baigul Dam Spillway rests on clayey soils where considerable settlements were anticipated under the piers, crests and wing walls. Detailed laboratory and field tests were carried out to ascertain the allowable bearing capacities and the anticipated settlements. Settlement joints were provided along with copper and asphalt seals to cater for these settlements.
