Abstract

In the downstream protection concrete jhirri blocks laid soon after the baffle wall of the spillway of Hasdeo Barrage, a hydraulic structure of magnitude constructed by the Irrigation Department across River Hasdeo, a major tributary of River Mahanadi in M. P., flyash as could be made available from the local 100 MW. Thermal Station ivas used, in order to economize in the cost of construction.

The following are the salient features and conclusions :—

(a) Replacement of cement by flyash to the extent of 10 per cent was decided upon looking to practical working limits on the basis of various results of laboratory and field mix design.

(b) Compressive strength in concrete is quite satisfactory as per requirements of design. The water requirement of concrete containing flyash was more.

In view of the accent on economy in our national River Valley Projects, it is hoped the data prescribed in the paper will be useful to those actually engaged upon construction work.
