In an earlier paper published in the Journal of “Irrigation & Power”, Volume 25, No. I, January, 1968, the author had indicated the in situ testing carried out on a Turbo-generator pedestal to assess the quality of concreting. As a result of the testing, certain defective patches were noticed which had to be treated so as to ensure a homogenous monolithic structure.
In this paper, the treatment afforded to the turbo-generator pedestal, namely, that if drilling and grouting at salient points has been elaborated. Also the results of subsequent ultra-sonic tests conducted have revealed a substantial improvement in the quality of the concreting in the pedestal.
The two papers indicate a possibility of checking up of the quality of concreting even in highly reinforced structures after the pouring in of the concrete and a possible method of removing the imperfections, if any, in the same.
