In conventional design practices, either the velocity or the depth of channel is assumed for the determination of an economical section of a power channel. This is necessitated because the number of determinates is more than the number of determinant equations.
An attempt is made in this paper to present a rational method for designing an economical section of a hydel channel. Analytical approach is resorted to and additional equations are obtained from non-silting velocity consideration and the condition that the designed section is the most economical one.
