Abstract

Radioisotope Test Methods have been recently used for non-destructive tests in various Civil Engineering Problems. The present paper outlines the effects of certain physical parameters on the performance of a depth system of nucleonie soil density and moisture gauges and illustrates the use of the system for quantitative evaluations of density and porosity of substrata below the so-called shear zone gallery of Koyna Dam.

The above test has given useful information which could be otherwise not available by conventional methods.
