Abstract

Many problems in design of stilling basins require a knowledge of various elements of hydraulic jump with known values as discharge and the energy lost in the jump. Even for a simple case of a rectangular channel the solutions of equations involve tedious methods of trial. For other sections like triangular, parabolic, trapezoidal and circular channels no method exists.

In this paper two parameter methods for rectangular, triangular, parabolic and other exponential channels and three parameter methods for trapezoidal and circular channels with family of curves for non dimensionalised depth before and after the jump and energy loss as parameters are evolved which can be directly used for design purposes.

Tables with non-dimensional energy loss varying from 0 0001 to 20 for rectangular channels and from 0 0001 to 2.5 for triangular channels have also been presented.
