To accomplish the most economic and effective energy dissipation in stilling basins of hydraulic structures much attention has been given to the study of hydraulic jump. Various aspects of the hydraulic jump in horizontal and sloping channels have been investigated and some theoretical work has been done on hydraulic jump in channels with adverse slopes, but to the knowledge of tho authors, no experimental data are available for tho latter case. The present experimental work is therefore taken up. It is found that beyond a certain slope, it is not possible to stabilize the jump only for higher Fronde numbers. The other characteristics of the jump such as depth ratio, energy losses, length of jump, etc., have been studied and presented.
