An open channel section having a given roughness coefficient, laid on a constant given slope and carrying a given discharge with minimum area of cross section is called an economic section. In this paper trapezoidal, rounded bottom and rounded corner trapezoidal sections have been investigated. The results have been presented in graphical forms which can directly be used by a design engineer.
