The design of a channel cross-section by Kennedy’s method or Garret’s diagrams for given values of the discharge Q, the rugosity coefficient N, critical velocity ratio in and the slope is time consuming, since it involves a trial and error process. In this paper a, direct method of channel design is suggested. The method based on Kennedy’s equation in conjunction with Manning’s equation gives the dimensions directly without any trial and error being involved. A graphical solution has been also presented which can directly be used to obtain the solutions.
