Abstract

It is contemplated to instal 480 MW (8 of 60 MW each) in the power house at Balimela. Initially, however, six units will be installed completing all necessary civil works for units 7 & 8 also. The power plant is anticipated to run at a low-annual load factor of 30 per cent utilising the installed capacity for 2600 hours. Working tables indicate a continuous generation capability of 121 MW at 102 cumecs discharge and a 90 per cent dependable output of 135 MW at 133 cumecs discharge. The discharge through each unit for the rated output at rated head is 28-30 cumecs. Accordingly, the sections of channels and the tunnel arc analysed for a flow of 226.50 cumecs; and that of each line of penstock for 28-30 cumecs. In this Part II of the paper are given relevant details of the civil engineering features and a general description of tho hydro-mechanical and hydro-electrical installations of the Power Project.
