Abstract

Many factors have been identified to have influence on the perfor-mance of AC Electricity Meters. The ambient temperature, voltage and waveform are the three important influence quantities notified in IS and other international standards for Energy meters. It is well known that with the variation of these quantities, the performance of energy meter also varies. These variations have been specified to be within certain limits in IS and its adequacy is examined for Indian conditions. Apart from these quantities, some design parameters, viz., the driving torque, torque-weight ratio and power loss in voltage coil are also known to have significant effect on the performance and life of meters; they are discussed and stan-dardised. Also specifications have been furnished for a few mechanical parts of the meter. Various discussions made herein are aimed at the revision of energy meter specification.
