Trial Operation of Chukha Unit as Synchronous Motor

Eastern regional system with its high voltage network, due to large gap between peak and off-peak load, has been experiencing over voltage particularly during lean hours of operation. Besides other usual methods of controlling overvoltage an attempt was made to run Chukha Hydro Power Station unites) in motoring mode with an idea to conserve water also. Results of certain on-line tests for the security of the system as a whole have been found to be encouraging. Depending on further clearance from commercial angle rf!gular operation is contemplated during lean hours except for the months with high-hydro conditions round-the-clock.
