Abstract

The use of electrolevels for geotechnical and structural applications has been researched since 1977. But it is only recently that the technological developments have allowed manufacturers to be able to obtain, at relatively low cost, the accuracy and repeatability that is demanded by today's engineering community.

Especially in the United Kingdom the use of electrolevels for monitoring structural performance and tunnel safety has incresed dramatically over the past tweive months.

This article will introduce the history concept, new developments and case studies involving electrolellels.
