The cable dynamic behaviour and fatigue life depend heavily on the effective flexural stiffness. The actual striffness of the cable varies between two extreme limits of cable behaviour-a monolithic and a completely loose assembly of stranded wires. Extensive experiments to assess this value have been carried out and the variation of this stiffness has been expressed as a function of resonant frequency.
