Abstract

The role of mini hydel projects as an attempt to supplement energy generation as a short/medium-term measure, has been-well identified and accepted. However, developers whether from the public or private sectors, are not eager to take up the schemes unless these are economical1y viable and technically feasible. This paper attempts to identify the areas which deserve review in the interest of economic viability. Also the paper throws light on a few areas, particularly on the electrical side where the agencies responsible for developing the hydel projects, invariably do not have adequate feedback and information. A few suggestions in the areas which require more serious approach to ensure reliable and safe operation of the generation system has also been made in the paper.
