In the present setup, education in water resources engineering is not properly imparted right from the undergraduate stage. It is part of Civil Engineering course of multidiscipliflc1ry nature with very little accent on wc1ler resources engineering. There is no attraction for water resources engineering because of limited employment oppartunities on graduation due to the presently much reduced construction activity. The in-service water resources engineers are concerned more with certain peripheral issues, such as environmental effects, water management, etc., than the main activity of water resources development. The text books available to the students of water resources engineering are outmoded and not updated from time to time considering the rapid advancements taking place with changing technologies and application technology. The in-service training imparted to such under educated and ill-equipped water resources engineers can not be an adequate solution to the problem, specially for the incoming generations of water resources engineers. Construction activities need to be geared up soon to gigantic magnitudes with massive Inanpower of water resources engineers for the survival of the nation. The Central Board of Irrigation and Power is the only organisation capable of tackling all these issues.
