Abstract

Transmission line towers are analyzed and designed for most critical load cases. Most of the members are continuous, but they are assumed hinged at the joints, however, this continuity leads to secondary stresses. It is usual assumption to consider towers fixed at the ground level for analysis. The effect of soil structure interaction is generally ignored. Nonlinear effect (material and geometric nonlinearity) are not considered, while analyzing the tower structure. In this paper a parametric Investigation is carried out to study the above effects considering tower structure as space truss and space frame with material, geometric and material nonlinearity and solient features of the results are presented.
