Abstract

The Teesta III Hydro-electric project (1200 MW) is located on Teesta River in the North district of state of Sikkim. The project is under active construction and is slated for commissioning by March 2016. It is the first mega project being constructed under PPP model in joint venture with Govt. of Sikkim. Except diversion structure, all project components are underground and therefore innovative tunneling practice with special emphasis on shotcreting has been the notable feature of the execution strategy of the project. The use of latest shotcreting equipment, Alkali free accelerator and micro silica with poly fibers for the shotcrete has benchmarked the construction practices to a new level in India. This paper highlights the different aspects of mix design, uses of modern construction material and the field performance of shotcrete in this project.
