Abstract

Feeding Increasing load demand for an existing captive power plant is a potential bottleneck. Adding solid tie connections to connect more generators in parallel is an immediate solution to feed the augmented load scenario. But in doing so, the short circuit levels increases beyond the switchgear's short circuit withstand capacity.

The main aim of this paper is to discuss a case study for the application of pyro technique based fault current limiters to mitigate this scenario and offer maximum possible operating flexibility within the system's electrical capabilities.
