One of the important uses of synchrophasor data is to detect occurrence of power system faults and their nature and to monitor protection system behaviour during such faults. In this paper an effort has been made to analyze the responses observed in the synchrophasor data for various types of faults occurring in the Eastern Regional Grid of India and assess the success/failure of auto-reclose operation during single-line-to ground faults. It is also shown how approximate fault clearing time can be estimated for any type of fault with the help of high resolution synchrophasor data.
