Abstract

The Rihand concrete dam, commissioned in 1962, is distressed due to the alkali-aggregate reaction. The problems had been experienced soon after its commissioning. Expansion of concrete has caused cracking of concrete, resulting in many other problems and affecting proper functioning of the project. Except Normal Plumb Line all the instruments that were initially installed, have become in operational. As per the recommendations of the Expert committee, CSMRS is engaged in the monitoring of crack movement with the help of suitable instruments. This paper discusses the monitoring of the structural behaviour of the dam and powerhouse structure by analyzing the data obtained from crack monitors and normal plumb line instruments.
