Transmission sector Development and adoption of SMARTGRID technologies in Indian scenario

This paper presents brief information regarding some of the challenges faced by Indian Transmission Utilities. The paper discusses various technological aspects needing attention to address these challenges as well as issues like Effective Grid Management, Renewable energy utilisation, its integration and real time scheduling, Smart ways of occurrence analysis etc. It discusses in brief important technical aspects related to development of some of these SMARTGRID technologies in Indian context and how some of them can be developed for addressing the challenges faced by transmission utility like MAHATRANSCO. Paper also discusses MAHATRANSCO experience in developing some of these SMARTGRID technologies with case studies based on implementation of Wide Area Monitoring System, Situational Awareness System. It further covers how transmission utilities in India can develop some of the SMARTGRID technologies like Renewable Energy Management System and establish Renewable Energy Management Centre (REMC), its salient features and requirements. It also covers how Automated Fault Analysis System (AFAS) can be developed in order to have fault investigation and fault recovery in more effective and smarter way.
