Abstract

Hydroelectric Power development is the most important constituent of green & renewable energy, which is also extremely important for balancing other renewable energy forms produced by Solar, Wind and other smaller forms. At present there are more than 5000 villages yet to be electrified in India. However mere electrification of these villages may not be sufficient. Electrification should target supply of affordable electricity for “basic energy needs” required for attaining basic living standards like cooking, heating, lighting and further linked to health, education and communication.

Hydropower including Pumped Storage and Solar power along with Wind power and other renewable sources of power have active roles to play in tandem to “ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all” as envisaged at Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations.
