Radar is basically a means of gathering information about distant objects, or targets by sending electromagnetic waves at them and analysing the echoes. Since the development of the technique just before World War II, its application has been diversified from detecting approaching aircraft, now to geo-technical applications. Geophysical investigations using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) for to detect and map the shallow geologic, engineering and hydrologic features have increasingly been used in recent times as effective, time and cost saving and non-destructive option. This paper describes the GPR and its use for a solution when other investigations cannot be applied in a hydroelectric Projects and in the detection of utilities.
