Successful implementation of any project depends upon the well planned investigation and strict quality supervision of the construction. In adequate knowledge of the different investigation methods to be adopted can be seen as one of the reasons for the delay in completion of the project. Indirect methods of investigation will be very helpful as they are very rapid and economical. Insufficient communication existing between engineers and geophysicists leads to under utilization of geophysical investigation methods which is an efficient tool for the investigation of any type of infrastructure projects if properly understood and employed. This paper makes an attempt to highlight the advantages and limitations of geophysical methods in investigations of infrastructure project and to overcome certain practical problems faced during investigations. This may help minimizing the communication gap existing between engineers and geophysicists and may eventually lead to optimal utilization of geophysical methods for assessment of the subsurface.
