Abstract

A field study using tritium as radioactive tracer has been carried out to determine the permeability of overburden at dam site of Chamera Hydroelectric Project, Stage-II by Irrigation Research Institute, Roorkee. In this study, the velocity of flow in bore holes drilled in overburden at dam site upto 10 metre depth has been observed using single well dilution method and thereafter, the permeability has been determined using the hydraulic gradient between point of observation and another well located nearby. The average permeability as observed at dam site works out to be 5.27 × 10−5 cm/sec to 7.74 × 10−5 cm/sec.
