Abstract

Excessive and prolonged rainfall on Ravi and Chenab basin from 24–26 Sept 1988 due to orographically reinforced southwest monsoon resulted in largest precipitation depth. Highest peak flows at different gauging stations in both the basin were observed during this period. At Chamera dam site downstream of Chamera stage-II dam a flood discharge of 6290 cumec has been recorded, which is 2.2 times more than the ever recorded flood peaks at this site. Further at Madhopur on Ravi river peak flow of 16350 cumec has been recorded. In view of this revision of design flood of Chamera stage-II has been done. The study for computation of standard project flood has been carried out with the help of unit hydrograph derived by Collins method and Integer Nash model.
