Abstract

The diversion works in Chamera Hydroelectric Project Stage-II have been provided to divert the non-monsoon river flow whereas, during monsoon months, river was allowed to pass over partially constructed spillway blocks.

The diversion scheme consist of construction of upstream and downstream Cofferdams and about 300 m long 10.15 m (W) × 7.7 m (H) concrete lined (30 cm thick, M30 A20 grade) diversion tunnel with its inlet and outlet structures. Design discharge for the diversion tunnel was 592 cumec, which matched with 50 years return period for non-monsoon flow. With the designed arrangement, maximum velocity of water does not cross 12.60 m/s under any circumstances.
