Abstract

Hydro projects are tailor made and as such off the shelf design would not suit to a project. Application engineering, therefore, gains significant importance as far as plant reliability during O&M stage is concerned. The days when transformer was considered as static equipment are gone and it is considered as a chemical factory. This makes application engineering especially in respect of transformer very important. This paper attempts a presentation of salient features and care taken in selecting different aspects while doing engineering of transformers and XLPE cables. Incidentally cables happen to be a virgin area in Indian context where enough experience is not available in the field of application viz. a viz. installation. It is expected that future engineers will be benefited by this paper and enlighten application engineers.
