Environment Friendly Engineering Solution for Transmission Lines in Hilly Terrain

India has both types of terrain, Plain as well as Hilly. To construct transmission lines in Plain terrain is easy as compared to hilly terrain. Hilly terrain construction team face many difficulties during execution and also damage vegetation in that area.

We thought of different ideas to save vegetation and minimum damage to environment. Blasting in Hard Rock is also a major concern in hilly terrain. We have tried to discuss such idea in this paper and suggested the method to be adopted, while designing transmission towers and foundations.

This paper is mainly divided in 2 parts.

Part 1

Towers: In this part we have brought out triple body tower concept to reduce/avoid large amount of benching and hence very less impact to surrounding vegetation and environment.

Part 2 Foundations: In this part we have described new concept for Rock Anchor type foundation to reduce blasting and Auger foundation to reduce damage to surrounding vegetation and environment.
