Abstract

For design of various civil structures of the Indira Sagar project, Department of Earthquake Engineering, Roorkee, has prepared the design earthquake parameters. Extensive hydraulic model studies were conducted at Maharashtra Engineering Research Institute (MERI), Nasik for spillway and energy dissipation arrangements. Re-engineering of the spillway piers and associated civil works of the concrete dam has been done as the hoisting system had been changed from mechanical to hydraulic hoisting system. This paper attempts to describe seismic aspects, design of dam, piers, shear zone treatment and protection wall of powerhouse.
