During the construction of major dams quality control of concrete plays a significant role in the life of the structures. Indira Sagar Project is one important project in Madhya Pradesh, which has been completed recently. An attempt has been made in this paper to present an overview of the quality control activities carried out during the construction of the various structures in this project like Dam, Power House, HRC, TRC etc. which includes a description of onsite control testing, control of production facilities and control of fresh concrete during production and testing of hardened concrete including information on concrete mix studies, on batching, placing, compacting and curing of concrete. Special features of significance like mass concreting, temperature rise studies etc., are brought out to highlight the importance of maintaining a proper quality control system in the production and placement of concrete.
