Abstract

Fabrication and erection of spillway radial gates and stoplogs of 8 × 125 MW Indira Sagar project on river Narmada in Madhya Pradesh, India was successfully accomplished in a tight time schedule of about 19 months from October 2003 to April 2005. Perhaps for the first time, 20 Nos. such large radial gates of size 20m × 17m each were fabricated at an improvised workshop at the project site itself. Numerous innovations were made right from designing, fabrication, transportation and erection etc. to ensure speedy implementation of the works with quality. Micro-level planning, close monitoring, timely payments, good co-ordination and understanding among different vendors and suppliers and maintaining high morale and motivation levels of the team members were the key factors of successful execution of the works in time.
