Narmada Hydroelectric Development Corporation Ltd., Bhopal
In this paper the siltation pattern of Narmada basin mainly for Indira Sagar project has been highlighted. The overall basin planning of Narmada basin envisages 29 major, 135 medium and 300 minor reservoir in MP, some of them have already been constructed upstream to Indira Sagar project and other are under construction and planning stage. In sedimentation study for Indira Sagar project attempt has been made to consider the effect of all these projects. Siltation adversely affects life of hydroelectric project, reduces capacity of the reservoir, damages turbine and other equipment through which silt-laden water flows, causes bank erosion and instability, increase and turbidity of water, affects aquatic life and water quality and results in difficulty in gate operation.
In this project it is found that maximum expected zero elevation after 100 years as Rl 233.70 m which is still lower than the MDDL of Rl 243.23 m and hence no silt problem is observed.
