The global tenders were invited for procurement of hydro generator equipment along with auxiliaries for 8 units of 125 MW sets for Indira Sagar project. The design, features of the equipment were competitive, conforming to latest world standards. This article describes the features of the generating equipment generally describing the design aspects of the various components of turbine like draft tube, spiral casing, guide mechanism, turbine shaft, sealing system, bearings, collar shaft etc. and generator components like stator, rotor, stator frame, rotor hub, spider, poles, bearings etc. This article also covers generally the control, supervision and monitoring philosophy. The selection of the equipment was carefully done as even after the lapse of 12 years of drafting the specification, these are comparable with the current practices.
