Abstract

The Indira Sagar reservoir would be the largest reservoir in India when fully filled up to its FRL 262.15m. At present the reservoir has been allowed to be filled upto El 255m. The vast flood forecasting network would help to absorb and moderate the huge floods. The normal flood would be moderated to about 50 percent and maximum observed flood to about 25 percent in case they impinge be end of September, when the reservoir level would be about to reach FRL. This paper attempts to describe the flood and reservoir regulation aspects of Indira Sagar reservoir.
