Abstract

Synchrophasors have evolved as an indispensable tool for Grid Operators for system visualization. This paper presents a novel application of Synchrophasors for remote visualization of the synchroscope while facilitating synchronization of two large grids for the creation of the integrated synchronous National Grid of India. It also shares the cases where the tool was used for planned desynchronization and detection of forced separation of the grids. The paper also recommends that at the boundary substations, the Phasor Measurement Unit having supply from line CVT (installed on the tie line) and the PMU having supply from the bus CVT could be considered for the tool to be more effective. The paper suggests that the remote visualization of the synchroscope using Synchrophasors would be useful during re-synchronization of islanded systems as well as during synchronous integration and formation of the SAARC grid.
