Abstract

The municipality of Sidi Amar, experiencing in recent years a strong demographic expansion and a great economic-boom following a significant development of industrial activities. Indeed, it shelters the most important industrial zone of the wilaya of Annaba. This him, the steel complex of El Hadjar. The liquid and solid discharges of this industrial fabric are likely to contaminate both surface and underground water resources. In order to highlight this industrial pollution and its impact on a possible contamination of the surface water and the Wadi Meboudja, we have determined the physicochemical characteristics of some water points located downstream from the external sinkhole. The analytical results obtained show that the water withdrawn from the wells and the Wadi Meboudja are potentially vulnerable to contamination following the leaching of the external crassier. Indeed, the relatively high levels of some potentially toxic metal trace elements (Fe, Mn, Pb, and Cu) testify to this contamination.
