Abstract

Successful completion of India's highest dam across Bhagirathi (Ganga)-the third highest Embankment dam in the world, is a landmark development in the annals of high dam building in India. Located in highly complex geo-tectonic environs of Himalayas-a region prone to high seismic activity, its safe design and construction, posed immense technical challenges. The paper describes in a nutshell, how these challenges have been adequately met by THDC, which the author believes, was possible, with human efforts being blessed by the mother river.
