Problem of sediment inflow into reservoir on Himalyan rivers located in mountainous regions acquires great importance in planning of river valley projects. In this context, it is important to study the sedimentation pattern of Tehri reservoir and to deduce thereof the useful life of the reservoir.
The present paper deals with the estimation of the reservoir siltation rate, reduction in the live storage of reservoir with passage of time and prediction of useful life of the reservoir on the basis of observed silt data. The analysis of observed silt data for estimation of above parameters has been made in accordance with CBIP Technical Report No. 19 of year 1980 and Technical guidelines of USBR on Reservoir Sedimentation.
