Immediately after the bifurcation of headrace tunnel-1 and headrace tunnel-2, an underground butterfly valve chamber (BVC) has been provided to house the four butterfly valves. Parallel to butterfly valve chamber penstock assembly chamber (PAC) was constructed for the excavation of vertical penstocks and erection of penstock steel liners in the lower bend, upper bend and vertical portion of the penstocks.
The present paper deals with the design and construction aspects of these caverns of Tehri HPP constructed in adverse geological conditions with narrow rock pillar in between.
