Abstract

The cranes intstalled in the Tehri hydro plant are one of the heaviest cranes provided in hydropower plants in India. These cranes run on concrete beams which are partly supported on rock ledge. The construction of RCC crane beams was accomplished when the excavation in the machine hall was just below the crane beam level. The columns supporting the crane beams were constructed after the excavation in the machine hall was completed up to foundation level and concrete wall was made on upstream and downstream side of machine hall. This paper describes the design techniques applied for undertaking such constructions.
